REVIEW: Spider’s Web by Agatha Christie

Suppose you find a body in your drawing room …

… what would you do if calling the police could threaten the career of your husband and wellbeing of your family?

In Spider’s Web the Agatha Christie Theatre Company shows how Clarissa Hailshaw-Brown copes with finding the body of Oliver Costello lying in her drawing room. The servants are having their night out and her husband, Henry Hailshaw-Brown, is on his way with a very important guest. To have the police in his house would end Henry’s career so Clarissa has only one choice: to get rid of the body before her husband arrives. She soon realises that she cannot do this alone but who can she trust?

Spider’s Web is Christie’s first play that was not adapted from one of her books and it her first full-on comedy. It is brilliantly played by the Agatha Christie Theatre Company and although it is a very comic play it is full of suspense, mystery and unexpected twists. It entangles the audience in a web of lies, deceit and chaos. Nothing turns out how it seemed to be.

Summing up Spider’s Web is a great production and a must-see not only for fans of the genre.

The Agatha Christie Theatre Company performed Spider’s Web in the Grand Opera House in Belfast from 5^th to 10^th October. They will continue their tour performing in 3 more venues across the UK.
