Looking back on their very first audition, no-one could have predicted the controversy John and Edward Grime’s presence on ‘The X-Factor’ would cause. Often compared to Same Difference who appeared on the hit programme back in 2007, the Irish born twins have managed to survive yet another gruelling live show with a memorable rendition of Britney’s “Oops! I did it again.” Squeezed into red leather jumpsuits, the boys delivered a highly entertaining performance that prompted Simon Cowell to admit, “It was like watching The Exorcist… I didn’t like it… but I wanted to watch it again.”
The question remains however: Do WE want to keep watching them?

With a show that has witnessed the success of renowned stars such as Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke, it is understandable that so many fans are appalled to see ‘The X-Factor’ turning from a talent contest into what could arguably be seen as a freak show. Even the show’s most loyal fans have threatened to boycott the next series if John and Edward continue to progress in the competition, prompting worries of a decline in the show’s T.V viewings. With so much hostility from the public, it would seem only natural that the judges would sympathise with the boys and the negativity they have been forced to endure. However, this was not evident in the case of Cheryl Cole whose feelings have been made perfectly clear by bitter comments such as, “I can’t believe John and Edward are still here and [Rikki Loney is] going home,” and, “You can’t sing, fact.” The latter remark being highly ironic given her weak, mimed performance of new single “Fight For This Love” on Sunday night’s live show.
Despite the hostility they have witnessed in the short period of two months, John and Edward have managed to come back fighting stronger, and in the harsh reality of the music industry, it’s not easy to remain thick skinned, especially at the tender age as 18. Moreover, there is no denying that the twins have provided the show with a touch of originality, and isn’t that we want to see in an entertainment programme? Not the usual, mundane, girl bands attempting to become the new generation’s Pussycat Dolls. Edward Grimes recently reported in an interview with the Daily Mail, “We are like frosted flakes. Some people just feel uncomfortable about admitting that they love us.”
Biased as the source may be, I couldn’t have summarised it better myself.
Cheryl Cole mimed.
John and Edward were hilarious.
Hahaha! Brilliant, keep them in and add a bit of fun to a stale show!
After her horrendously out-of tune pre-recorded performance Cheryl Cole has no right to slag anyone off for their sing abilities. How can a judge on singing competition be justified as being able to comment when she can’t even hold a note. There’s more star quality in a pack of Rich Tea biscuits!
john and edward are a gimmic. they’re being used to wittle down the competition and push the judges favourites to win into the spotlight. they do this every year, last year it was that old fella daniel the year before it was same difference and before them it was the mcdonald twin! they need to go out but they won’t.
