REVIEW: This Is It

Before watching ‘This is it’ I had a preconceived idea, influenced predominantly by the many critical reviews of the movie that the documentary footage of Michael Jackson’s final curtain call would show ‘wacko jacko’ in his conveyed egotistical way. Wide media coverage of the superstar within the last decade presented Michael as a super being who acted as though he was God, enhanced further by his plastic surgery which made look him less human. Yet, on watching this documentary Michael Jackson rightfully earns his throne as the ‘King of Pop’.

Kenny Ortega’s film showed Jackson as a true musician and born entertainer whose live vocals and dance routines were nothing short of perfection, that would undoubtedly put to shame the majority of pop artists in the music industry at present. Jackson sought perfection in every aspect of the show continually engaging with his vocal, instrumental and dancing team to thank them for all their work and sheer commitment and to push them further “to make the audience enter into a world they have never entered before”. Jackson 2009 -  The technical team with their skillful lighting, lucrative stage sets and pyrotechnics, enhanced Jackson’s personal stamp on each of his major selling hit singles, that in the London O2 arena would have made ‘Thriller’ and ‘Billie Jean’ arguably his best performance in history.

It is just simply a tragedy that this frail looking King of pop passed away before his final tribute to his adoring fans.
