EMC Report: Students call for drama funding
A proposal from students requesting SU funding for a drama production has been discussed by members of the Executive Management Committee.
BY BRENDAN HUGHES
The meeting this afternoon was attended by four SU staff: Acting Chief Executive Andrew Dodge, President Shane Brogan, and VPs Susan Kearney and Laura Hawthorne. Brogan mentioned that he had received apologies from the absent staff members.
The written proposal – the only item on the agenda – requested funding for a production of C.S. Lewis’ ‘The Screwtape Letters’.
Among its aims, the project intends to “encourage inter-relations between students from different subject areas” and to “encourage the building of the student community”. The students’ proposal referred to a lack of opportunities for students of all academic disciplines to participate in amateur dramatics.
EMC members questioned why the proposal was not being handled in association with the Drama Society, which already receives funding from the Students’ Union. A list of questions to be emailed to the students involved was compiled, and a final decision was postponed until a later date.
