LETTER RE: Library Toilets

Dear Gown,

Perhaps you could run an article on the state of the lovely new library toilets…
My reason for this suggestion –

 1. No loo roll in 2 our of 5 toilets on ground floor
2. Dirty Toilet bowl in 1
3. Over flowing with toilet paper in another toilet meaning out of 5 toilets by process of elimination only 1 was clean with loo roll
4. No soap in 1 of 4 soap dispensers
5. Over flowing bins
6. The floor actually had muddy foot prints on it
7. Generally the wash hand area was dirty with disregarded toilet paper as hand dryer did not appear to be working either
8. On glancing at the cleaning schedule on my way out it has not been signed since last Friday

I did not bother to go to the toilets on any of the other floors but if the toilets on the ground floor near the issue desk were anything to go bythen it wouldn’t have been worth my while to go upstairs.

The old library and the Heaney toilets use to be poor at times, but really, basic hygiene -  is it much for us to ask for or do they think us students will just get on with it and use them?

After all, to spend all that money and have the toilets look like public ones after a few months is just stupid I think.

Perhaps this is the late evening rant of a disgruntled student and disregard it if you feel there is more pressing issues but as I said this is just a suggestion and I enjoyed the new issue very much today.

  1. I’m in library right now and there is a couple of people to my right talking so loudly that i want to curse my life out at them….AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. Would they ever shut up? I am giving them so many dirty looks, as are a few other people near me. Oh Jesus. I’m going to crack up. Why isn’t the floors arranged in terms of how quiet you need to be on each floor? This is awful.

  2. The toilets have always been fine when I’ve used them; and ANYTHING is an improvement on those stinks in the Heaney- jesus they were vile!

  3. There’s never any toilet roll in the new library toilets! What’s up with that? I guess £3000 per year per student isn’t enough to pay for toilet roll =/

  4. With this new library it’s time Queens remembered what library toilets are actually for…

Mainly cubicle walls being used as an active sectarian message board and casual gay sex hookups.

You only think you know disgusting. The things I’ve seen in the old basement toilets on the main library I can’t bring myself to put into words…

  5. toilets…as a disabled student i use the disabled toilet on the ground floor of the library and the flippin door weighs a tonne it really angers me, they put sooo much thought into the layout and making it student/disabled friendly and then the door is made of a solid slab of wood that a weightlifter could use for training, it takes so much effort to open. its also right in the open and my struggles often draw attention, so much for enabling the disabled when it seems the bloody door is used to do nothing but make life difficult and draw attention to my weakness.

then the only disabled toilet in the lanyon womens toilets beside the welcom/giftshop. the disabled slidding door has a lock that seems only for asetic purposes. it doesnt work!!!!

wait to use a toilet at home is the only solution.
