So what's this about Gown site not shortlisted and Union site IS shortlisted?
eh?
That seems a little unjustified. Seems to me that they just wanted to pick one site from Queen's and picked the Union site as an overall representative.
Mmmh...They're two very very very different sites.
Mistake made!
Well done all involved. But won't it be interesting if the Gown or its editor win an award? Catherine I suggest if you do win you get up to accept your award with your wrists bound and some tape over your mouth. Nothing like proving a point ;)
You are a man of both the cloth and the truth Mr Archbishop of Gowne. To criticise The Gown on a thread which also refers to the SU Magazine? Asking for trouble this County Gown man thinks. Compare the quality of each...and my county shall triumph. I see it's Gown V Down in the all Ireland editor final. Interesting. I know who I'd pick.
QUBSU website? Sure that's not "media" - let alone being award-worthy - and the QSUM website? does it exist?
(I do, however, believe in a transcendental overall QSUM, an abstract media lifeform somewhere out in the ether, from which all QUBSU media life somehow springs.)
And "utter garbage" is hilarious. SU Mag hasn't contributed a single, memorable, truly relevant piece this year. Whimsy? Check. Good to so-so to abysmal features? Aye. Gormless middle-class stabs at political commentary? Yup.
Student issues? No.
Journalism. No.
S'all just craic'n'filler. Distill it down, put it in PTQ and try and run a proper magazine.
I read all the Union publications and I really don't understand how you could describe The Gown as utter garbage. As someone commented on here before, The Gown has actually questioned so many Union and University things this year. Also, as I have a number of young brothers and sisters I have actually found The Gown really useful in updating my parents on the latest news on fees as they don't read any of the papers that deal with it at length. Plus I noticed with pleasure that a Gown writer made it into the Guardian with a fees related story this year, so you can hardly justify calling the paper "utter garbage". Unless of course I'm totally missing something, in which case, please let me know!
I go on The Gown website everyday, I'm actually rather sad that it wasn't shortlisted! Must check out the ones that were and see what the craic is with them. The Union website's nominated? But sure I thought these were media awards...I'm an itsy bit confused. But ah well, sure I'm sure Queen's will win something! Yeah for Queen's!
It is laughable that The Gown was nominated for Newspaper of the Year. It is 8 pages of utter garbage. Well I personally like the layout and design of the SU Mag bar a few margin issues
As someone who browses The Gown website quite a lot, I'm very surprised you guys didn't pick up a nomination for 'website of the year'.
How in under GOD did SU Mag get a nomination for layout and design of the year!? As many of my friends have said, every page induces an epileptic fit!
Folks,
A hearty congratulations to all involved in their media outlet at Queen's. Everyone deserves a big round of applause! Well done to The Gown, The SU Mag, PTQ, The Verdict and especially to the Queen's Radio crew who work so hard and I really hope they scoop it up in Dublin and that many other awards return to the North!

A great year of success for all SU Media!
