NEWS: Belfast AIESEC enjoys record success

The Belfast branch of AIESEC, the world’s largest student organisation, is celebrating record numbers of students set to experience international internships this year. Present in over 100 countries, AIESEC is set to send approximately twenty graduates and undergraduates on international internships covering a broad spectrum of disciplines in over five thousand organisations worldwide. The organisation is also set to provide twenty international exchange participants with the opportunity to work and experience the culture in Northern Ireland at a business in Belfast. These exchange numbers are an all time high in the organisation’s history in Belfast.

President Mark Rodgers commented, “We’re delighted to be offering so many people the experience of developing their leadership skills and expanding the diversity of their cultural understanding”. Thanks to AIESEC’s student-run status, participants enjoy a unique experience unrivalled in terms of the support provided. As AIESEC is present in over eight hundred universities worldwide, exchange participants are immersed in this network while they are working abroad, offering a cultural experience and a social life right out of the box. So what’s next for the lucky twenty exchange participants going abroad this year? For starters, they’ll be sent to an outgoing preparation seminar to learn how other ‘AIESECers’ have dealt with adapting to life in a foreign country and how to get the most out of their internship. On arrival at their destination country they will be greeted by the students from the local AIESEC Committee who will assist them in setting up accommodation and getting to know the area. They will also have the opportunity to attend weekly AIESEC get-togethers after work. When their internship is over, exchange participants will come home to be ‘reintegrated’, which is AIESEC terminology for learning how to make the most of what they experienced, including working with some of AIESEC’s business partners who will offer training on how to market their newly developed skills.
