NEWS: SU President adamant students can resist fees hike
Responding to the coalition government’s proposals on higher education funding this week, SU President, Gareth McGreevy said there is no way that students at Queen’s will pay £9,000 for fees. As of 2012, universities in England will be able to charge nearly triple the current cap of £3,290. Students across the UK and Ireland in recent weeks have protested against plans to increase fees in both respective jurisdictions. Next Wednesday, thousands of students will take to the streets of London to have their voices heard at Westminster. BY KERRI-ANNE CAMPBELL

REVIEW: FML at the Waterfront
Did you know that in India it is cheaper to buy a prostitute than a condom? Did you know that 95% of statistics are made up? Did you know that last year 500 people died in Ireland through suicide? Suicide and depression among young people make up the key themes of Pol Heyvaert’s touching, hilarious and often random play about the thoughts, feelings and lives of 19 young people from Cork to Belfast. We are told “it’s for every nameless, faceless teenager who now has a chance to be understood”. This is not a play for the faint hearted. BY SARAH LAVERTY

His response of “I cannot tell a lie” is well known in American folklore. BY SEAN ASHFORD

The club also hosts lesser known comedians, who still have to widely launch themselves into the public eye. Patrick Monahan is one such comedian, but his relatively unknown status does not deny his skill or talent. BY MARK STEVENSON
