REVIEW: Linkin Park – A Thousand Suns

Linkin Park release their fourth album, ‘A Thousand Suns’, with a very different array of material presented across the 15 tracks. They veer more in the path of ‘Minutes to Midnight’ type of material, as opposed to the stereotypical Linkin Park sound which dominated their debut album, ‘Hybrid Theory’.

NEWS: Technical problems at Students’ Union

Queen’s Students’ Union staff and sabbatical officers have been experiencing some technical difficulties with their Microsoft Outlook emailing system over the past week or so. Numerous folders have been deemed “corrupted” and many may be permanently lost. The problem has yet to be resolved.

FEATURES: The good and the bad of returning to university

The summer months felt like an indefinite time of travels, festivals and parties, with the next academic year far from everyone’s mind. However, October has crept gradually upon us once again. You hear from friends that you haven’t spoken to since exam time and there is frenzy over the dreaded QSIS. The return to university is one that is filled with conflicting sentiments, with both good and bad points accompanying the move back to Queen’s. Fingers crossed that the good outweighs the bad.

NEWS: Joe Higgins MEP makes the case for socialism at Queen’s

On the same day as the Irish government’s announcement that the total cost of bailing out Anglo Irish Bank could reach €34bn (£29bn), Socialist Party MEP for Dublin, Joe Higgins, spoke at Queen’s University on the case for socialism. Higgins said the Irish government and working people face a “stark reality” in the coming months if they are to recover from the current financial crisis. The solidarity of citizens and mobilisation of youth must force an entirely different approach in Ireland.

NEWS: Former Council Speaker quits Union politics as nominations open

As nominations to Student Council opened this week, former Council Speaker, Alexander Redpath, has announced that he is stepping down from Union politics. Redpath stated that he can not afford any distractions as he enters his third year as a Law student. ”I am reasonably happy with my contribution over the past two years. It has been good fun at times,” he said.
