COMMENT: Annoyance at non-existent quiz for clubs and societies

The latest Students’ Union clubs and societies’ quiz scheduled for earlier this month was cancelled at the last minute to an apparent “lack of student interest”. This cancellation means that the funded quiz has yet to be held this year despite being a weekly fixture in previous years. After already having been delayed this year the quiz had been postponed until the 24th November but on that morning an e-mail was circulated stating its cancellation, with no plans for further rescheduling.  Historically the quiz had been a weekly event held in one of the SU bars with substantial financial prizes but now there are serious doubts as to whether it will be undertaken by the Union at all in the next semester.

NEWS: “Open Executive” session in SU as sabbs give some answers

In our last issue, a leading article posed the question ‘What has your Executive Achieved?’ (2/11/09).  Today, the student population’s opportunity to put that question to the Executive face to face arrived, as an open meeting entitled ‘Open Executive’ was held in the SU as part of Political Activism Week.

NEWS BRIEF: New ‘Suggestion Box’ erected in The Space

A new ‘Suggestion Box’ has been erected in The Space in the Union today, which means there are now two boxes of this kind in the building. Marketing manager, Seana Skeffington, told The Gown, “It’s all about getting opinions and suggestions for improvement, both here in the Union and across the way at the University.”
